Why 1st Serve?
"For even the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give His life as a ransom for many.

For nearly 150 years, 1st Presbyterian Church has made its home in downtown Winston-Salem. It is our home. We, and our predecessors, have seen this city grow and change. We have been part of both the growth and the change as well. Lately, we have collectively heard a strong calling to be a more integral part of the downtown community. 1st Serve is but one step in that direction.
1st Serve is a day, but it is much more. It is a commitment. A commitment by the people of 1st Presbyterian Church to the people and places of downtown Winston-Salem and to all of our neighbors - all over the world.
Our Service is a response. A response to the all that we have received - mercy, grace, our very lives and all that we have. We desire to give back to our neighbors, to our community and to our world. A world that God created. And that we are called to Serve.
But 1st Serve is NOT limited to those who worship at 1st Presbyterian of Winston-Salem. It is OPEN to all of our neighbors and friends who desire to serve with and along-side us. All are welcomed and encouraged to join in. We hope you will!
